Ozark Howler

Archival Digital Print

The Ozark Howler is so named because of its call, which witnesses have described as similar to that of an elk. It has resided for generations in the heavily wooded Ozarks of southern Missouri, northern Arkansas, and eastern Oklahoma. The Ozark Howler is described as a black beast with the horns of a goat and glowing eyes, resembling a cross between a panther and a dog. It is said to be four feet high at the shoulder and seven feet long. While no howler specimens have ever been found, there are documented sightings that go back to 1946.
